Late orders, a bad call, or a canal stoppage due to low water levels. There are thousands of reasons that could prevent you having access to the right raw materials at the right time. “Whatever happens, we always try to close every gap”, says CEO Adriaan Egas.
According to Adriaan, compound feed factories typically have two main concerns: commodity prices and just-in-time deliveries. “There’s nothing we can do about the former, as customers decide what to buy and at what price. The second, however, is more under our control. Not only have we set up our organisation to enable JIT deliveries, but all our practices and methods revolve around being incredibly flexible and solution-oriented.”
Back in the day, Groan founder <name> would always say: “We’ll do the impossible right away. Miracles will take a little longer.” While the aphorism itself has gone the way of the dodo, our attitude has remained unchanged since 1977. “Last year’s introduction of our new ERP system is a great example”, Adriaan points out: “The standard logistics solution that came with the system would have reduced our flexibility, so we simply rebuilt it from the ground up because we never want to say no.”
“Changed your mind about an order? We’ll see what we can do!”
You ask, we deliver: that’s how easy it can be. While we always put everything in writing, we know that situations can change, requiring a nimble pivot. Adriaan: “When customers ask us for a change, we prefer a little leniency over a rigid letter-of-the-law mentality. Changed your mind about an order? We’ll see what we can do! Need to alter the quality of a particular raw material? We’ll have a look-see. Either way: we always put the customer first."
